The final rites for Deb Mukherjee will take place on March 14 at 4 PM at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Juhu, Mumbai.
Deb Mukherjee, father of acclaimed filmmaker Ayan Mukerji and father-in-law of director Ashutosh Gowariker, leaves behind a rich legacy in the Indian film industry. Many stars are expected to attend his last rites, including family members like Kajol, Ajay Devgn, Rani Mukerji, Tanuja, Tanisha, and Aditya Chopra. Close friends of Ayan Mukerji, such as Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Hrithik Roshan, Siddharth Malhotra, Deepika Padukone, and Ranveer Singh, are also anticipated to pay their respects.
Born in 1941 in Kanpur, Deb Mukherjee hailed from a prominent film family. His mother, Sati Devi, was the only sister of renowned actors Ashok Kumar, Anoop Kumar, and Kishore Kumar. Deb’s brother, Joy Mukherjee, was an actor, while Shomu Mukherjee was a film producer married to Bollywood actress Tanuja.
Deb Mukherjee had two marriages. From his first wife, he had a daughter named Sunita, who is married to director Ashutosh Gowariker. His son Ayan is from his second marriage.
Deb Mukherjee began his acting career in the 1960s with small roles in films like “Tu Hi Meri Zindagi” and “Abhinay.” He later appeared in significant films such as “Do Aankhen Barah Haath” and “Baaton Baaton Mein.” Throughout his illustrious career, he delivered memorable performances in classics like “Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar” and “King Uncle.” His last appearance was in Vishal Bhardwaj’s film “Kaminey” in 2009.
