The Central Board of Secondary Education CBSE has recently published the syllabus for Class 10 and Class 12 for the academic year 2025-2026.
In addition to significant changes like holding Class 10 Board exams twice a year, the CBSE has introduced a new grading system.
From the examination process to the marks calculation and subjects required for passing, LiveMint provides an exhaustive overview of all the new modifications for the academic year 2025-2026.
CBSE Class 10 Board Exams – What are the changes?
According to the latest announcement from CBSE, students in Class 10 will now have the option to take two board exams each year in February and April, starting from the academic session 2025-26.
CBSE Class 10 Marks Calculation – What is new?
Previously, CBSE followed a five-point grading scale based on absolute marks.
Under the new system, the Class 10 exams for the academic year 2025-26 will adopt a 9-point grading system to convert marks into grades. Each subject will be assessed for 80 marks, with 20 marks allocated for internal assessment in compulsory subjects.
CBSE Class 10 Passing Criteria
To successfully pass the CBSE Board Class 10 exams, students must achieve a minimum of 33 percent in each subject.
What if a student fails a core subject?
If a student does not pass in core subjects such as Science, Mathematics, Social Science, or a language paper but successfully passes a skill-based or optional language subject, the failed subject will be replaced with the passed skill or language subject when calculating the overall result.
For example, if a student fails to secure 33 percent in Mathematics but has passing marks in any skill-based subject, the marks from the skill-based paper will replace the Mathematics grades.
CBSE Class 10 Board Exams – What are the skill-based subjects?
Students can select from the following skill-based subjects:
1. Computer Application Code 165
2. Information Technology Code 402
3. Artificial Intelligence Code 417
Moreover, students must choose either English or Hindi as one of their language options for Classes 9 and 10.
CBSE Class 12 Board Exams to Begin in February
The CBSE Class 12 Board exams will continue to be conducted once a year. The exams for Class 12 in 2026 will commence on February 17.
CBSE Class 12 Board Exams: Marks Calculation
Similar to Class 10, the results for Class 12 will also be evaluated using the 9-point grading system.

1. Land Transportation Associate
2. Electronics and Hardware
