New Delhi. Anaya Bangar, who transitioned from cricketer Aryan to a female identity, is currently very upset. Her anger is directed at the England and Wales Cricket Board, which has recently imposed a significant restriction on transgender cricketers. The ECB has banned ‘transgender’ athletes from competing in womenโ€™s cricket matches. This decision followed a court ruling, and two years ago, Anaya, who transitioned through hormone replacement therapy, voiced her support for transgender individuals through social media.

In response to the ruling concerning transgender cricketers, the ECB stated that they are revising their eligibility criteria based on updated laws following a ‘Supreme Court’ decision. The revision clarifies that ‘transgender’ individuals are not included in the legal definition of women. According to the ECB’s statement, ‘Effective immediately, only those players whose biological sex is female will be eligible to participate in women’s cricket and girls’ cricket matches. Transgender women and girls are still allowed to play in open and mixed cricket events.’

Anaya Bangar took to Instagram to express her thoughts: ‘Yes, the ECB has officially banned transgender women not just from professional cricket but also from the enjoyable aspects of the game. This is more than just a rule; it’s a message. A message that implies that regardless of your dedication, talent, discipline, or transformation, it will still not be recognized adequately. It feels personal to me as someone who has devoted their heart to this sport.’
