Former defence secretary Ajay Kumar has been appointed chairman of the UPSC, based on a Union Personnel Ministry order.
The publish of Union Public Service Fee chairman fell vacant after the completion of Preeti Sudan’s tenure on April 29.
Kumar’s appointment was cleared by President Droupadi Murmu, based on the order issued on Tuesday.
A 1985-batch retired Indian Administrative Service officer of the Kerala cadre, Kumar labored as defence secretary from August 23, 2019 to October 31, 2022, based on his service data.
The UPSC conducts civil providers examinations to pick out officers for the IAS, Indian International Service and the Indian Police Service, amongst others. It’s headed by a md and may have a most of 10 members.
At current, posts of two members are vacant within the fee.
A UPSC chairman is appointed for a time period of six years or till attaining 65 years of age.
