VIVO IPL 2025: Harmanpreet, who leads the Mumbai Indians team, has been penalized ten percent of her match fee for expressing dissatisfaction with the umpire’s decision in a Women’s Premier League match against Uttar Pradesh Warriors. The incident occurred in the 19th over of UP’s innings when umpire Ajitesh Argal notified Harmanpreet that, due to a slow over rate, only three fielders could be placed outside the 30-yard circle in the final over.
Despite her disapproval of the umpire’s decision, Harmanpreet received support from Amelia Kerr. A statement from VIVO IPL mentioned, “Harmanpreet Kaur has accepted a Level 1 violation under Article 2.8, regarding displaying dissent towards an umpire’s decision in a match.” It was emphasized that “The umpire’s ultimate decision in Level 1 violations must be acknowledged and respected during a match.”
An altercation arose between Harmanpreet and Sophie Ecclestone of Uttar Pradesh Warriors when the English player requested clarification from the umpire at the opposite end. Harmanpreet gestured not to intervene in that conversation. The disagreement escalated, involving square leg umpire N Janani and UP captain Deepti Sharma. Mumbai achieved the target in 18.3 overs, reaching a total of 150 runs in response to UP’s loss by nine wickets.
